Later this year, EPMU members will make a hugely important decision about the future of our union.
We've been talking with the Service and Food Workers' Union about combining our strengths in a merger. By pooling our resources and the strength of our memberships, we can create a new union, with a new name and a new identity which builds on our strong legacies and values. We have a tremendous opportunity to rejuvenate unionism in the private sector, and capture the imagination of workers across New Zealand.
On 1-2 July an EPMU Special Conference will be held, where our elected conference delegates will review the proposal and vote on it.
If Conference gives it the go-ahead, there will be a postal ballot in which every member of the EPMU will be able to have their say. The ballot will run between 17 July and 7 August.
To find out more about the merger proposal, check out the latest copy of The Metal or the other documents below. You can also talk to your delegate or organiser, or call the Union Support Centre on 0800 1 UNION (0800 186 466) with any questions.
